How wonderful that you made it to this page and I feel honored that you want to learn more about me!
What about me? Originally I come from the Netherlands, but live in Sweden for some years now. I like good food, to be there for other people, my family and the sun!
From a very young age I was always busy creating. If it was bringing coloring pages to life, drawing or trying out other crafty things. I am very grateful for my grandma that had everlasting patience with me while I was trying to knit a dress for my barbie doll. In the end, she did more of the knitting than I did, but effort must count for something! I was never bored, because I had things to create.
When I got older, crochet and knitting were not so much part of my life. Yes I did make the occasional scarf, that was knitted with the biggest yarn I could find on size 10 needles. My patience only lasted so long, and it was nice to finally finish something.
My journey in, especially crochet, continued when I became pregnant of our first child and moved to Sweden. With a lot of time on my hands I tried to get creative again. From a small snowman crochet kit that I got from my brother and an easy baby blanket pattern for my unborn, things got rolling and never really stopped.
As most of you know, babies grow superfast and I kept finding myself looking for new clothes in new sizes. I thought, there must be a different way. Especially because my pile of clothes that I did not want or did not fit grew. I decided to buy a sewing machine and upcycle my old clothes into baby clothes. With actually no experience at all, I simply tried some things out in the hope they could be used. This means they were not always even and amazingly beautiful. But with all things, there will definite be a learning curve. Now the kids, yes I got another one, are bigger and the clothes are not easily made out of an old t-shirt or the sleeve of a hoodie. But I am up for the challenge. What is better than saving some money and be kind to the earth at the same time?
I love to crochet and make things for my kids and others. I am a mom of two wonderful girls, that do take a lot of my energy. After a busy day, it is so nice to be able to create things and re-energize a bit while doing it. Especially as a stay at home mom, the feeling of accomplishment after finishing a project is great and much needed. I am not a perfect crocheter and am definitely a beginner with sewing. But I like to share my vision, ideas and learning with you. I hope to be able to inspire you, that also you can start creating and make a lot with just a little.
With love,
Maaike
